Meeting Program:

The meeting presenter, Scott Bush, has been in the sheet metal industry since 1998.  He began as a journeyman and is now an instructor for the Joint Apprenticeship Training and Service Apprenticeship programs at Sheet Metal Workers Local 20. Scott has numerous certifications including TABB, Fire-Life Safety Level 1, ITI CCS CAD and FAB Certified, SMAW/GMAW Welding Certifications, and IGSHPA Certification for geothermal heat pump installation and loop design.  He specializes in service, testing & balancing, LEED / lean building, and hi-performance HVAC systems among other things.

Fire and life safety devices play a crucial role in protecting building occupants from smoke and fire by compartmentalizing the event.  It is important to install and maintain smoke and fire protection systems correctly to protect the building occupants. This presentation will focus on the correct installation, inspection, and maintenance of fire dampers. Code requirements for installation and inspection will be discussed.  Real world examples will be shared to emphasize the importance of proper installation and maintenance of building fire and life safety systems.

After the presentation SMACNA will give a short tour of their training facility. This is a great opportunity for those new to the industry who want to see what happens behind the scenes.
